PhD Position in Stable Isotope Geochemistry of Wood Cellulose

A 2-year PhD position (with a potential 1 year extension) funded by the German Science Foundation is available at the GeoCenter Northern Bavaria of the Friedrich-Alexander-University of Erlangen-Nürnberg (Germany). The position is to be filled by June 1st, 2009. Salary is according to TV-L E13/2.

The research project focuses on carbon and oxygen isotope chronologies of wood cellulose in order to reconstruct climatic changes in the NW Mediteranean (Corsica) during the last centuries. The study is part of a larger research project conducted in cooperation with the Geography Departments of the Universities of Erlangen and Göttingen (dendrochronology, densitometry, wood anatomy).

Precondition for the application is a diploma, master or equivalent certificate in geology or geography. We are looking for a person with a strong commitment to independent research. Experience in stable isotope geochemistry, dendrochronology and/or statistics are beneficial. Very good language skills in English are required for Non-German applicants.
